10 Things You Didn’t Know About Coke

Guest writer, AliDurrani continues his posts for TeamBURBZ with a look at one of the world’s most recognized brands. What you know about it?

Undoubtedly, the most famous soft drink brand known to man is Coca-Cola. It happens to be my favorite beverage as well as hundreds of millions of people around the globe. I decided to research the brand and found out some pretty interesting stuff I thought I’d share with my fellow Burbanites.

10) Coca-Cola was Originally Green

I don’t know if I would feel the same way about having a Coke as I do now if it was green, but then again I also drink Mountain Dew. So who knows. Ha.

9)  Coke Boys Empire

The Coca-Cola Company empire owns more than 500 brands around the world including Sprite, Fanta and Vitamin Water. Plus they got over 1200 bottling plants. That’s hustling.

8 ) Some Like It Hot

One would think people would like it ice-cold, but in Hong-Kong it’s occasionally served hot as a cold/flu remedy. Do you.

7) Have You Seen Her?

The Coke trademark is recognized by approximately 94% of the world’s population making it the world’s most recognized trademark.

6) Dissolves Things

If one were to put meat in Coca-Cola it would be gone in about 2 days, Yikes! Imagine what it does to your teeth.

5) Coke-pourri

Coca-Cola can be used as a cleaning solution for toilets, dishes and, well, whatever you’d like. I won’t judge.

4) Medicinal Purposes, Dude

Drinking a coke when you have a headache apparently helps to ease the pain. In fact, when Coke was invented by Confederate John Pemberton in 1865, it was intended for medicinal purposes. Yea, heard that before.

3) Nazi Coke

Coca-Cola & The Nazis??! In 1936, Coca-Cola endorsed the Berlin Olympics also known as the “Nazi Olympics”. While Britain was at war with Germany the company handled it’s business behind enemy lines and advertised beside the Nazi Regime. As America entered the 2nd World War, German bottling plants couldn’t get the syrup to make the drink so they invented another drink for the Nazi public called “Fanta”. Who knew?

2) High Off Soda

Cocaine in Coke. A main ingredient is the coca leaf, which is the key to produce cocaine. About 8 tons of coca leaves are imported from South America each year by Coca-Cola & if regular citizens brought any of this into the states then most likely they’d be arrested for drug trafficking.

1) 911 Is A Coke

A day before Martin Luther King was assassinated he held a speech asking people to boycott Coca-Cola and to quit purchasing their products because of the way the black workers were treated. Supposedly white workers got paid higher wages for little work where as the African Americans where expected to work longer hours and do harder work for little pay while having no chance to climb the company ladder. Sounds like most American companies from that era. But the struggle continues.
